Passenger backrest on eBay - anyone buy one?
« on: May 14, 2017, 09:57:01 PM »
I'm finding some black passenger backrests on eBay for $175 but not sure of quality:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-RAIDER-SCL-FIXED-MOUNT-PASSENGER-BACKREST-SISSY-BAR-CUSTOM-PAD-BLACK-/272645538842?roken=cUgayN&soutkn=hLS1XG

Anyone buy one of these off eBay? Need opinions since I don't want there to be any issues with passenger safety. Thanks.

That appears to be the second generation Raider backrest in the black powder coat.  I have never seen one person but have seen the Chrome one and they look solid.

These are Chinese knockoffs of the OEM Gen 2 Backrest.  I couldn't be sure about the quality of the steel they use, or the method of coating the metal.

That's my concern too, cheaply made. The piece is way too important to try and save a buck or two. I looked at the seller's feedback and saw negatives regarding quality and fit for other products he sells.

This one has an OEM part number. I looked on Yamaha's part finder but can't find this part:

Are all Raider fenders the same? When I bought my '09 Roadliner it had the Raider fender on it already so I don't know the year.

If you're really concerned about passenger safety then I say go with OEM.  That way you're sure to get quality you can trust and don't have to worry about quality issues with saving a few bucks on Ebay buying from an unknown source...  ;)

Completely agree. I found an OEM part but I can't seem to cross reference it with any parts numbers on exploded diagrams. Someone said they found it and it's the same part number across all years but I want to verify.

      Thanks for your reply!

It would be the same part number for every year on the fixed mounted backrest.  It has not had any changes since it came out.  The only one that changes was the QR when the original QR was discontinued and the replacement QR came out.

I bought my chrome tall fixed mount backrest from Ebay but it was an OEM and came from East Toledo Honda if I remember correctly.  Just remember it doesn't come with a pad.

Yup, that's the seller that has the OEM part. They're selling a black one and I think they're including the pad.

      Have any pictures? Thanks.

Here are 2.  I use a small sissy bar bag on the luggage rack mostly.  But the big bag did fine for my wife and I to stay overnight.  Hope this helps.
