Installed new battery backwards and Medusa expired

Well it rained all day over Memorial weekend Mon. Tues ---
I didn't check the starter relay because this time I just held the starter switch on and after a second or two no tapping sound
bike turned over and started? Will have to wait till weekend to get it out in the drive and have a friend turn key and I'll see if
there is a noise or not. ??

I did the same thing on my Virago. You should be safe.  You probably just blew a fuse like I did. Check fuses.

I will look for a fuse  but never have searched for a fuse box?

Yep, pretty sure a fuse is going to go before any serious damage is done.  Good luck.

That would be my guess.  The sad thing is I visually checked to see if my fuses were blown and they all looked fine. My dad came over and first thing he does is start putting a meter on the fuses and what looked to be good was not. It took him literally about 5 minutes to find my problem.

The starter relay has a coil and that coil doesn't care what the polarity is or was.  If the main fuse gave up the ghost the starter circuit never was energized so therefore the probability of damage was nil.

Isn't that what the fuses are for... to protect the important/expensive components.

Yep but freaky things can happen and it is possible to fry a part without blowing the fuse.  Extremely rare but it can happen.

Fuses don't recognize polarity. That would be my concern.

If I remember correctly fuses and relays are polarity sensenitve just voltage.  But regulators and statorshave been known to go or just not work if polarity gets reversed.

A relay is nothing more than a coil of wire with contacts and an actuating core.   There is a voltage range where they will operate but calling it 'sensitive' is a little much.

A fuse is sensitive to amperage or current draw.  Voltage is hardly a factor.  Fuses are purchased based on amps and for the most part are rated at 600 volts.
