Torque & Horse Power
« on: Nov 02, 2011, 06:01:10 AM »
Hi,

I have checked into forum files but didn't found the torque and HP values for a stock Raider.

In the service manual, there is nothing about.

do you know this values ?

Only the paint is different.
Keep in mind that calibration, air temperature, barometric pressure, and a hundred other things will affect the actual numbers.

The Black paint naturally gives you just a tad more HP and a tad more Tourque . . . regardless of the year.

I come again with the same subject ..

I understood that Raider has 80,4 HP and 139,3 Nm torque. If we make an easy comparison with Kawasaki VN2000 and Suzuki M109R, please see below :

                 engine        HP          Torque (Nm)
Yamaha Raider   1854   80,4   139,37
Suzuki M109R   1783   127   160
Vulcan VN2000   2053   103   177

(for VN2000 should be correct because I took the datas from service manual and for M109R I just look into some net forums and took the values)

If my datas are correct, looks that Raider is the weekest one ??

we should do something ...:)

Ya, let's all measure that at the engine shaft like suzki did.  We penalize the Raider by looking at the rear wheel numbers.  When you look at the rear wheel numbers for the M109, the Raider looks pretty darn good.

means for Raider, the HP and torque, are measured at the rear wheel and for the other maybe at the engine shaft ?
If they are measured in different points, we cannot compare the figures. But is not written where these numbers were measured ...
I just wanted to know where is Raider place in comparison with others, I think is interesting to find out.

Automotive manufactures used to rate power at the flywheel. But at some point in the 1970's they had to give a more realistic reading, hence the drive wheel ratings. But I guess motorcycle manufactures can rate the output how ever they choose, engine shaft or rear wheel :-\

I think I read where the M109 is like 110/100.  Your Raider torque is not correct.

Your numbers are wrong.  Like others have said your comparing rear wheel numbers on the Raider to flywheel numbers on the other bikes.  According to motorcycleusa.com dyno and a couple other sources that I could find the rear wheel numbers are as follows:

Raider:  84 HP @ 4500rpm, 107 Ft-lbs @ 2200rpm
M109R:  107 HP @ 7100rpm, 79 Ft-lbs @ 7,100 rpm (that rpm is a little misleading, it's too high)
VN2000:  96 HP,  119 Ft-lbs @ 3300rpm
VTX1800:  87 HP, 97 Ft-lbs

The M109R is a faster bike than the Raider (but much lower on torque).  The VN2000 and the VTX are slower than the Raider due to the weight of the bikes.
