Powdercoating Wheels-Need help

Hello to everyone...

What I need to know before powdercoated m wheels???  What I need to remove and how, if possible???

Front Wheel:  Remove tire and valve stem.  remove both break rotors.  Remove both axle seals.  Remove bearings.  I don't remember if there is a spacer in the front wheel.
Rear wheel:  Remove tire and valve stem.  Remove drive pully.  Remove break rotor.  remove drive hub and dampeners.  Remove axle seals.  Remove bearings, be advised there are retaining clips that hold bearings in.  Remove races and spacer from inside wheel.

I suggest getting a detailed view of the wheels before you start, so you can see what it looks like before you start.

The drive hub and dampers will just pop out, but it will need a little mechanical assistance.  Somebody might be able to recommend a good way to get leverage without damaging it.  I used a small screwdriver wrapped in some protective material and slowly worked around the edge, little by little.  I did it without damaging anything, but I don't think I would do it that way again.. seemed a little risky.


You could reuse the bearings if you don't damage them when they come out, but you might as well replace them.  You will likely need to take the wheels to a shop that has the equipment to do it, it's not an easy task.  The seals and circlips should be replaced.

remove drive hub by keep pulley attach to hub and pull up so it will come, just you have to work back forth.
better to replace bearing and seal to protect your life. insurance better than cheap and reuse

I agree with the bearing replacement.  For the cost, which is not that bad, I replaced all of mine while I was there.

when I powdered my wheels I took everything off of them. I replaced all of the bearings and seals, most of the bearings are toasted when you pull them.

when removing bearings you end up deforming the races and balls themselves. i highly advise not using old bearings, spend the few dollars and get new ones.

when installing them, freeze the bearings and take a heat gun to the hub where the bearing will go, they should drop right in or go in with minimal effort.

Don't remember....too long ago.....I know all the powdercoating I did was less than 800.

Ok, finally I got my wheels painted and new tires.  Now need help installing the rear wheel.  Have hours and can't install it.  Any info will be appreciate.  Thanks in advance...
