i like the idea of somewhere around the Tetons or Yellowstone ... but I am not a fan of crowds.  and I definitely don't want to be riding my Raider behind 20 RV's.  so I can see where LuvMy68 is coming from here.

LuvMy68 ... yeah bud. I did not read thru the whole 16 pages of this thread.  But ideas do go round in circles.  So I get the point that room rates at Jackson Hole are high.

That moves us away from the touristy area.

so we could do the Durango area in CO (a bit far for the Canada guys).
We could do somewhere in Idaho or Montana.
we should keep checking the best MC routes in those areas.

Lots of routes in CO and UT, but same issues, Northern guys gotta drive south and southern guys gotta drive north.
Think the Polling idea and get a input of how many can doon or all of  3 different places is a good idea, something that we all can vote on yes to one, two or all three places. That way we can pick the best for the masses, or maybe could turn into a two stop trip for some?
But again, I am a newbie here and I know others have more experance to all this thatn me. Just my 2 cents

It really becomes a case of too many chiefs and trying to please too many riders... imo...

OK ... so I think that folks will be willing to ride a few extra miles if we can find a good location.  I don't mind going as far as Idaho.  Maybe the Canada guys could tolerate southern UT.

The main thing seems to be the following:
1. We're pretty close to some good riding routes for motorcycles
2.  The town we stay in has reasonable rates for motels.
3.  We avoid the peak tourist season for "hot spots" in June.  We can reduce accidents if we're not fighting a lot of tourist traffic.

why don't we draw up about 3-4 suggestions and have a voting poll to choose the winner.

What about Zion?  Probably still too far for the Canadian members, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

It has beautiful scenery, some nice switchback riding and it looks like some reasonable rates during that time period.


UPDATE: Now that I mapped it out, I'm sure it's going to be way too far south for the Canadian members.

Jackson and Cody WY are the most centrally located for SoCal and Canadian members so if that's the driving force behind location, it should be one of those two.  With that said, I'm going to hit the sidelines on this discussion as we may not be making the ride anyway --- might spend more time riding with the sis-in-law and her husband around CO for her birthday.

I will stay in touch on this but don't think it right that I weigh in too heavily if I'm not gonna make it.  I'll let y'all know if plans change.

OK ... so roughly speaking somewhere around Boise City, ID or Idaho Falls, ID would be
central for the folks coming from the north and south - Canada and So. California. 

We should check the best riding routes in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.
I'm not against Glacier Park.  Have never been there and would like to see it.
