Clutches bad ? Sudden loss of power & gas Mileage
« on: Nov 03, 2012, 10:10:35 pm »
About the top 1/8th of my lever just feels like nothins their. Or its maybe stuck i open a little. It seems to have lost a power too i have to give it more gas to get up hills . Could it just be air locked not lettin the clutch release ? And my gas sipper has turned into an angry gas Buffalo it totally skipped gas hog. I went from 46mpgs to 32 in two tanks with no change in ridding style just loss of power. I just changed the plugs and oil. Everythings up to par.   And i also have only a little over 8k. Surely the clutch ant goin out already.Any ideas what that could be ?

I would check the plugs, especially if it started right after you changed them.  Check and make sure all the plug wires are down good, and recheck your gaps.  Look and make sure you don't just have a defective plug.

What he said....a lot of people regap their plugs when they get them...when having issues after doing any type service that's where I start...with what was done.

Took out the plugs to gap. They only had a few hundred miles.  They were black like charcole.   Would tht mean i have a bad plug ?

Doesn't black plugs indicate running rich (=increased gas consumption)?

Do you still have the old plugs?  I'm wondering if the plugs you got are the right heat range?

Yeah . I still have the same plugs in the box where i took em out at. They are the same type plugs as i took out. Dont know how to tell heat range though.

I cleaned the front two b4 when they were black and put in the v&h pipes took a ride to laurel n all came back n checked them. Now the front two are light tan. I dont know about the back. I havent had time to take the tank off yet to check them.   Is it possible they may have been loose suckin in air at the plugs ?
That little hose that goes to the top of the tank . What is it for . Is it possible to kink that thing and drop gas mileage ?
