Hey all,

I have taken over as the new Admin for Adam. My name is Mo :)

I allowed you all to talk for a few days so that I can see how the convo. goes before stepping in and making any comments.

Thanks for creating the poll. It seems the vast majority don't want vbulletin.

I will let my team here know and get back to you all.

The reason we asked is because we want some idea of how the community feels about the change. If we we're going to change without asking, we would have just done so.

Thanks for all the feedback on this!

Mo

Welcome Mo- I think alot of us just really wanted to know what exactly the benefits are in switching to vbulletin instead of using what we are using now that everyone likes?

I think you're nitpicking a bit here.  I doubt Mo meant anything negative in that comment.

Thanks for the input Mo, it's good to know that the owners at least want to know how we feel.

Hey all,

I didn't mean anything negative at all. Just wanted to give you all a change to voice your opinions without me getting in the middle of anything.

In terms of the benefits of switching over to vbulletin. They include:

- Much better security features (spam is only a small issue in regards to this)
- Community growth (with VBulletin being the standard on many forums, we can see a lot more participation with a switch over. This means more community conversation, meeting new people and bringing in ppl who may have otherwise not joined)
- We can get different modifications/additions for the site (a lot of different cool features here - see below for an example)
- You can track particular member participation and posts (You can click on different users, view their post counts and see all the areas they posted in) - now it's easier to see where friends are contributing

I have used tons of forum software myself (VBulletin, XenForo, PHPBB, SMF, etc..)

IMO, I think VBulletin would make the site a lot better. VBulletin is pretty much the standard for many large communities and as we grow, we really think we could use the added security functions and we can even design the site as you all see fit.

We are here to work with you all, as this is your community and we just want to pave the path smooth for you all.

Here is one really cool feature with VBulletin (not a bike site, but just showing you an example) - basically the below link will take you to your garage where you can talk about the specific modifications you made to your bike and just show it off to the community):

Now that you have a little bit more info on what we can get by upgrading to VBulletin, I will add a poll to this thread.

Please vote and keep in mind all the benefits of switching over.

Regards,

Mo

You should have been actively involved all along. It would have been more productive and caused less angst.

Mo, is there any certainty that links, posts, pics will not be lost in the change over if it occurs?  I think that is one of the major concerns of the members.

I just realized the only other forum I visit daily (another hobby) is using VBulletin.  It was an upgrade to the old software (no idea what it was) and in some ways it's better, but in others it can be a real pain and I fight it often.  It could just be from poor configuration too. It did take a couple of months to work out all of the kinks.  It also has a limitation to the number of private messages you can store, but again that could all be the way it's configured.
