Pulleys and cruiseing RPM

Looks like the belt has 133 teeth, 1-1/4" wide and 14 mm pitch.  The pulley has 66 teeth.  If a 60 tooth pulley were to be used, that's 6 less teeth or (.5 x 14 mm x 6) = 42mm (1.653").  The rear wheel would move back 42 mm.  It doesn't look like there is that much adjustment.  I estimate there are 8 mm (5/16") adjustment towards the rear.

In my prior post (#14) I forgot to mention that I think the Gates belt is a better belt than the Dayco or Panther belts.

I went ahead and got the 61 tooth sprocket. Now. The dayco and the gates are the same price.  Im gonna go with the gates and be done with it . Seems the better deal for better quality.

Sprocket and belt came in Now i just have to find the time to put it on. Does anyone know how hard it is to change over the belt .

I wouldn't waste time or money  for a 120RPM drop  at 80 and less at 60.   That not going to even be noticeable.

With my 240 tire  actually at 60 mph its dropping me 267 rpm and at 80 its dropping me 356 rpm.   I cant say weather ill notice it yet because their just sittin on my work bench.
Where are you getting 120 rpm at 80 at ??

I did about an equivalent change on my last bike (it was chain drive, I think I went from 59 teeth to 64 teeth).  I loved it.  1st gear was noticeably slower, but it wasn't a torque monster like the Raider.  On the highway it was soooo much nicer.  I could cruise at 80 in comfort.  Overall I think it made the bike much more pleasurable to ride, and gave me about 3-4 MPG at the same time.

Definitely let us know what you think of it.   I'd be tempted, but my Raider is a city cruiser.  If I want to do long hauls I'll buy a bagger.

I am hopeing it will help me out on my fuel stops and mainly stop me where i always try to hit that sixth gear all the time.   I definitely will let ya know . If i dont like it itll come off   If i had a decent camera i would put some pictures up being the new pullley is chrome . But one on the phone ant worth a crap.

You'll need to remove the swingarm, in order to change the belt. You'll also need to remove the transmission pulley cover.

Actually, changing from a 66T to a 61T rear pulley is very noticeable. 1st gear is longer and I don't use 5th unless I'm on the Fwy.

This is something I have considered a couple times here and there.  Is there anyone out there that does anything for a tooth up for the front pulley? 1 tooth increase should be nearly the same as the 61 tooth on the rear right?  I know it REALLY tames a cr500r two-stroke and knocks a ton of R's off.   Of course I haven't started looking yet, one of those future mods, just wondering if anyone had found anything.  It is relegated to the future category because this winter my plast is plenty full of bike work. Might help somebody else though.

Not quite . A 33  front tooth sprocket will be close though. It will have you almost as high geared as the 61 tooth rear. A 34 front tooth will make you higher geared than a 61 rear.

So, it's clear now. I want this mod. I dit it also for my previous VN800, changed front sprocket from 16 teeth to 18 teeth and loved the cruising speed.

Before to proceed I would go to the easiest way => Is there available a front sprocket with 33 or 34 teeth, which will match ?  because the original belt can be used and the change will be only the front sprocket.

If not, means I have to change two things :

1. Belt, with 130T and 1 1/8 width. This is not an issue, just search into ebay.

2. Rear sprocket. Here I would have few questions :
    - all rear pulleys have the same position for the 5 fixing holes to the hub ? (I understand that maybe I will have to enlarge the holes, this is not a problem). Or there are pulleys with different distance between holes ? Same question for the big center hole.
    - the alignement is OK ? there is no need for any spacer ? ( I run the stock wheel)
    - I do not understand why there are on ebay rear pulleys so cheap like the one from the link. can be that these are not so safe, or doesn't have enough strengt like the more expensive ones ? or is just due to design (simple or more complex) and surface treatement ..?

   - I read that the pulley should not have RECESSED HOLES. I don't know what means this. Is it possible to post a picture so that I can clear understand what this means ?

I'm sorry that looks like in interogatory, but I want to make sure that I buy the right parts.
