38,000Km (24,000) service work
« on: Nov 28, 2012, 12:09:15 PM »
So my Raider has 38,000 km (24.000 miles) on it. Other than the regular maintenance items like oil changes and so on, what should I be looking at for service items? Do the wheel bearing typicaly have issues at this amount of milage or are they usualy good for much more? What about other wear items that may be aproaching the end of there run life? I really dont want to tear into something if there is no need for it. I know some of you guys have a ton more miles than this and I would like to gain from your experiances!
Thanks guys!

Not sure about the other items, but I have yet to have my wheel bearings replaced at 75,000+ miles. A while back I had the dealer check them out and they said there was no reason to change them.  I also let the dealer do all of my tire swapping.

Last time I checked my belt tension I checked the bearings and they seemed fine. What about the steering head bearings? I think I read someplase that they may be an issue but I can't seem to find where that was posted.

The only periodic maintenance the factory service manual recommends at 20,000 miles is repacking the steering bearings (actually recommends it at 16K miles) and changing the transfer gear oil.

It also recommends changing the sparks plugs every year/8K miles, checking the valve clearance every 16K miles, and replacing the brake hoses every 4 years.  I personally think all of those are unnecessary to do so often, but that's what the manual recommends.
260 Rear Tire, Freedom Curves exhaust, DIY BAK, DIY integrated turn signals, DIY sidemount plate.  More to come.
