I don't think I have ever had it flashing, just come on full time when I reach the "reserve"
A piece of electrical tape strategically placed will take care of that flashing light.
Changed my sending unit out last summer after putting up with the light and tripmeter. Just go ahead and change it and spare yourself of all the grief. Takes less than 30 minutes.

I can't seem to even see the sending unit in the service manual or oem parts catalog.I hate the thought of lining the dealer's pockets with the labor they would charge me though.
For some reason I had it in my head that the fuel sending unit was in the subtank. Makes total sense that it is in the main tank, and I've pulled the tank off at least 20 times over the years, so it's a no-brainer to do this myself. Now I just need to order the part. For those that have done this, what kind of price did you guys have to pay? It's not available in the oem parts catalog, so it looks like I may have to order directly in person from my dealer. (that means no special internet price.)
I wonder what the difference is in part numbers...I saw a pic posted by yessirrom showing 5C7-85752-01In either case, I'll be ordering about a week before my next oil and spark plug change so I can do it all at once. Thanks!

My guess is that the -01 is the newer model of gage sending unit...
