Thinking of buying a Raider. What are the pros and cons?

I would see if u could trade honda in on the raider, that's what I did with my 02 honda spirit 1100 back in 2010, rode the 2010 raider out the door for 10,500 and I haven't quit grinning

I've tried.  With the dent in the tank, dealers are offering $2k under book.

Someone mentioned that some of the 09-10 models have had problems with lifters.  Has anyone experienced this problem or know anyone who has?

Where you at Lefty?  This time of year I'd seriously consider contacting norther dealers (like northern mn, wi, ND, etc.).  I usually see awesome pricing from those dealers in the dead of winter.  They are usually willing to take trades as well since biz is slow and they have time to fix the tank themselves before reselling it.  A lot of times you can have a bike transfered for less than $400 to anywhere in the US for delivery.

As coincidence would have it, my local dealer called today and Yamaha is running a deal that would tack on an additional $500 to any trade-in as part of the downpayment.

What I have not yet seen posted...if you buy a Raider....plant a Money Tree Seed...you will need it!! That said...you can have my Raider when you pry it from my cold dead hands

The mods I would want are a two-up seat & sissy bar, small (sport) windshield, rear rack, and 240 tire.  With 90 hp stock, a power commander would be nice but not essential.  Heck!  I have only about 65 hp now with rejetted carbs and it is still peppy.  I still have the stock exhaust (with the rear baffles poked out.

You won't be disappointed, Yamaha is pretty liberal with their factory warranties.  Once you settle on a ride, get the vin and call Star rep and discuss how your bike was initally sold.  Some were sold with different factory warranties.  I think they go something like this, body and mech, mech only, auction with no warranty.  Then there's the emission warranty which is like 5 years-18K miles which covers the lifters.  This is what I was told by the Star reps that I spoke to them.  There's about 15 low mileage, some with extended warranty, new and used Raiders on ebay right now. While you're there, post up the Sabre, spring is just around the corner  .  Good luck

Just a fwiw to ya....I had the 14" quickrelease windshield and had to make a choice to remove it or go with the 19" cuz the wind shear off the 14" was bad on my helmet...had to strap it so tight it was uncomfortable cuz of it. I opted for the 19" and have never looked back. I am 6'2" and Im sure that has a lot to do with where the wind will hit you off a shorter windshield.

Welp, it was 42 degrees here today and sunny so I road my Sabre to the dealer to see what we could work out.    Unfortunately, they had only one sales rep today so I hung around for over an hour without any numbers nor a test-drive.  They'll call me this week with some numbers.
