I've read that chrome will typically start blueing at around 400-450 degrees.

I would bet that at the header, the pipe would get around 350-450 depending on ambient temp, etc.

I have an IR temp gun, but I don't plan on riding in the next month.  Maybe I'll go let it idle for 10 minutes.  I would bet 300 degrees after 10 minute idle.

on the heatshields, I would bet they're in the 100-140 degree range.

Technicallly depending on the exhaust design you can get a higher temp in your header than the motor where the pipes merge into a collector.  Never seen it happen on a bike but it definitely could  on a 2-1, 3-1, or 4-1 exhaust setup. 

I have this problem with my Jeep (4.0L).  Its a known problem and will cause you to loose exhaust manifolds/headers in a little as 9 months.  The heat gets so hot that it'll weaken the metal as the header joints and then crack.  I've been through at least 5 sets of headers from different manufacturers (banks, headman, borla) before finally going back to the stock mani which has held for 2 years now.

Last year I was messing around with my IR Temperature Gun and although I can't remember what the temperatures were, I recall the rear cylinder was considerably higher temp than the front (seems like 80 degrees or so, but could be mistaken).

Had a friend do this to his car years ago.  Got him a nice ticket when he got pulled over and reached for his registration and bumped the switch.  Cooked the cops car parked behind him. 

Easy to make your own but they also sell a kit for cars on speedway motors that should work on bikes.

I have an IR. Gun at work that I used on my Vstar when I fisrt got it, never used it on the Raider. I will swing by tomorrow and use it and post the results.

I can only say-- hot enough to burn skin and cloth, and to melt plastic and rubber.
