BAK and Strong Fuel Smell
« on: Aug 07, 2013, 12:00:31 pm »
After installing the BAK, I get a Very strong fuel smell when I roll on the throttle. I have checked the fuel connections and everything seems to be in order, any ideas where the fuel is coming from?

    Double check for pinched hoses.

    Did you change your map?

I'll check the hoses again when I get home. So if they are pinched, what am I looking for, a crack? I am running a Cobra Fi2000 PowrPro, so no need to change maps. What about resetting the ECU?

Resetting the ECU only clears any existing codes that have been thrown. It does not change anything about the way it's performing.

Is it possible the PowerPro just needs some time to get it tuned properly?

I thought it was immediate...... there's a learning curve for it?

My understanding is the PowerPro is immediate and only works when throttling. The more I roll on the throttle the stronger the smell is. A buddy riding behind me smelled a lot of gas when I rolled hard on the throttle, and I smell the gas if I am sitting at a stop for a while and/or I roll hard on the throttle.

Other than a kinked or cracked hose during BAK install the only thing i can think of is a powerpro failure.

I'll check more carefully on the hoses and see if I can find anything. And Ill check the PowerPro and see its condition too. But it doesn't feel like it's not working.

Is there a good way to find cracks or kinks in the hoses?

One other thing to check....your fuel lines when you moved the tank to the side.  Check for any leaking or cracks.

I believe I read in some text somewhere concerning the Power Pro that after install or a change that within 5 minutes it will be providing the proper A/F.  If you are smelling gas afterwards you have a problem, my guess would be a leak since you say the power is there which would not be if the Power Pro was running rich enough to expel enough fuel that it can be smelled by someone riding behind you.

If its a leak I would find it quick . You just might end up looking like a 4th july rocket.      What about the fuel pressure regulator  don't you have to do a mod on it when installing the kit.  . If you can smell it Their  almost got to be a leak .

Be sure your vent hose is installed correctly
