Ok whats the trick to getting your forks to slide down? I loosened the 8 bolts on the four clamps but I cant get the forks to move?

You could always use a flathead screw driver to open them up a little more... ;)

Tried that-I even tapped in some wood shims to get it spread out more but still couldnt get them to slide.

Did you loosen the turn signals? If they're butting up against the tree, then the forks can't move.

I had the bike jacked up with the clamps and turn signals loosened. Then a took a block of wood and put it over the the caps with a folded rag in between the wood and the caps. Then worked one side to the other with a hammer and tapped them down.

I dont have the turn signals on my bike anymore and I did try tapping them down with a block of wood also- if they moved at all it was less than a 1/8 of an inch

Something is not loose or there is catch somewhere Scoob. As long as the front wheel is off the ground and both upper and lower clamps are loose it really should go pretty easy. Sorry I can't be more help.

I know the "How To" mentions using a jack under the front wheel. If you went this route, did you lower the jack?

Yes I lowered jack and I tried it without a jack.

I know I'm throwing out obvious ideas, but sometimes it's the obvious stuff that gets missed.  I can't think of anything else that would keep it from moving.

Weird Scoob!  Like others have said, I used wood shims to seperate the clamps some, and mine slid down on their own (when the bike was jacked up of course).  Something is not loose.....hmmmmm

Whatever you do, try to stay away from twisting them down into place.  You'll scratch up the extensions pretty bad doing that  (ask me how I know  :-[)

You could also loosen them and end up with a leak.

I'll remember that -Thanks
Really dont know what could be holding them up-maybe I will spray some WD40 on the clamps and see if that will loosen anything up.

Sorry.  Another really dumb question, but you did remove the screwdriver from the top of the tube that you tightened it with, right?
