As for the bleeding problems, the way I've done cars to keep things from getting messy is to get some clear tubing and attach that to the bleeder screw and then into a clean glass/plastic jar.  Fill the jar with a little brake fluid as well.  Then go through the bleed process(2 people on a car is necessary but on a bike you could use 1 although 2 would be easier).  1 person fills the master and pulls the brake lever while the other opens/closes the bleed screw till no bubbles in the jar etc.  Should go pretty fast as long as you don't reintroduce air into the lines by letting the master run dry or releasing the brake lever before the bleeder screw is closed.  Bonus is that you can reuse the brake fluid in the jar and the job is mess free at this point.  If this helps anyone then great.  Has worked well for me.

Yeah, I took that as a given, what I was thinking is having them milled down the thickness the chrome would add and wondering if they could then be dipped so just the extensions minus the threads got chromed.
