Went to the drag strip...disappointing
« on: Apr 08, 2010, 10:36:14 am »
Hey guys,

Last night I took my Raider and my wifey's Hyundai Genesis sedan to the track. The Genesis ran decent w/ a 14.4@99mph.

I've read different things online showing a stock Raider can go 12.09@108mph...I wasn't even close.

I know that rider's ability can cause a lot of leeway in results, but my riding wasn't bad. Plus, I've been going to the drag strip for many years, and the MPH is usually closer to was it's suppose to be no matter how the driver is, just the ET is off.

Here are my results. I have Vance & Hines 2 into 1, PCV (that was dyno tuned), homemade BAK. I dynoed at 95hp and 115ft/lbs. I weigh 280lbs.

60ft-1.97
1/8-8.35@83.3mph
1/4-13.13@101.9mph

My MPH was pretty close to my family car that ran 14.4s. I know I could have launched a little harder, but that wouldn't have made a difference at the end w/ MPH. I don't know if the "test bike" had a 65lb rider or what.

I was trying to think of reasons that would slow me down, maybe I overfilled the oil tank w/ oil..belt adjustment isn't correct, I did adjust it after the PCS slam kit, but maybe it isn't correct (I'm not getting any noises).

New HD Night Rods are turning 12.4xs in the 1/4, and M109s are running 12.4-5s. So maybe my times are accurate.

Someone else needs to take their bike to the track for a couple passes and see what they get.

I ran several runs on my Roadliner, no time slips but I crossed consistantly at 109-110mph.

My calculator says 110mph = 12.3 seconds.   I run probably 99hp and that puts me exact on the 1/4 ile calc for 950lbs. Which is 110mph at 12.3 sec.

    Test riders are generaly 150lbs.

You hit the 1/8 - 1/4 mile conversion table on the nose.  So whatever the situation is across the board. Maybe your clutch pressure plate?  Do you have the clutch upgrade yet?

    95hp x 950lbs = 12.5 at 108 mph.

Here are my races before I did the double clucth, rear exhaust port, intake bowls, lower profile rear tire, lowered the bike front and rear.

Hey Dejablue, there is supposed to be an 1/8 mile track in the area of Leesburg. I used to talk to a feller on Delphi forums who always hit that track and I always said i would eventualy meet him there. He has a Raider too.

Maybe we can find that track and do some 1/8 mile runs?  O8O

I have not done the clutch mod yet..didn't think I needed to. I don't think the clutch is slipping, but it can be slightly and not causing the RPMs to jump real high...

I'm not a real big fan of dyno numbers because all of them read differently, who knows if they're corrected/non-corrected, etc. I like the drag strip cause that truly shows your power. If your riding skills aren't as good as the guy next to you, your MPH will still show your power, just your ET will show how good of a rider you are.

       Oh, I re-read your post, you wiegh 280lbs.  I only weigh 210lbs.

heres a calc http://www.hotrodpitstop.com/tools.html#1  those are worst scenerio calculated numbers from what I have gathered.

Power to weight ratio is definetley going to play a factor in motorcycle power.  I re-calculated you and your bike at 1030 lbs and 95hp. It came up 12.8 sec 105mph, which is much closer to what you got.

The clutch is notorious as a slipper. Even a Warrior can toss out .5 off the 1/4 mile seconds with a clutch upgrade. Your not going to feel it slip, but it will cost you time. So if you are serious about shaving tenths off the time, I would think about the clutch, espesialy with your size.

I knew about the M-109 and V-Rod times for quite a while.  Thats pretty much what they run stock. The difference is that they can do a little tweekin here and there and get under 12 seconds.

I cant wait to do a 1/4 mile again. I got to get to a track soon.

Keep your chin up and get on the tweekin bandwagon.  ;D

Its probably your weight.  Your 100# heavier than the average rider.  As mentioned earlier testers are usually around 150#.  Also if your carrying more weight you're probably going to need the clutch mod.

Did you go with the double OEM clutch plate or the Barnett's diaphragm spring conversion? If you did the Barnett's, did you use the stock clutch plates or put Barnett's in there as well?
