Anyone De-Cannister Their CA Raider?
« on: Jul 29, 2015, 09:06:49 pm »
In the process of removing the gas tank to do my Ivan brackets I managed to lose the little spring clamp that holds the vent tube on the top of the tank. I tried the dealership but they show it as being needed on CA models so they don't carry them. I was able to get a 3/8" spring clamp that is working for the moment but it isn't on there nearly as well.

It looks like there are a bunch of those spring clamps on the extra tubing/cannisters on CA models. Has anyone removed all that extra stuff and kept some of those little clamps around?

I'm planning on removing my canister entirely at some point.  Not sure where you can get extra clips.  Could you maybe remove your canister and use one of the other clips holding any of the removed tubing?

As another thought, you might be able to order a clip from a CA yamaha dealer.  I know the name Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernadino from a motovlogger I watch.  They might be able to order you CA specific parts.  Their number is 1-800-841-2960. Might be worth a shot.  Otherwise, may need to just find something that works better at your local hardware store.

Also, as a last minute thought...even people that decannister their CA model have to leave the gas tank vent tube attached.  I guess on non-CA bikes, the gas cap is vented, whereas the CA model has a non-vented gas cap because of the vent tube.  At least I'm pretty sure that's what I read somewhere

The non CA bikes are also vented from the tank, not the gas cap.  The Baron's Low Profile gas cap is vented, if you don't plug the hole in the cap it will leak gas on to your tank after fill up...  :o  Ares X tought me that trick...  ;)

I don't have a CA model so no canister but it still has the vent hose that uses a clip. Even though all Raiders have them the dealer said they don't carry them because their computer says they're for CA models. I was hoping someone might have a spare laying around.

why not just get a small one of these - or any clamp will work. Its not kept on there that tight.

I had the canister on mine when I bought it...and it was the first thing I took off. However, I really don't think you'll even need that little clamp. The hose should fit tight enough by itself.

Use a small black zip tie. You can buy them any parts store or Walmart

The ones from Summit are what I ended up getting at O'Reilly but I'm wondering if that hose is a goofy metric size. I measured it and it looked like it was 3/8" but the 3/8" clamp was a really tight fit. So tight that I couldn't get the clamp on the hose comp!etely.

Does O'Reilly's have any 7/16" that might fit a bit better.
