Title: RUST ON ENGINE GUARDS
Post by: THUNDER on Jan 08, 2009, 11:48:46 pm
HAS ANYONE HAD THE PROBLEM WITH RUST ON THE YAMAHA ENGINE GUARDS, I KEEP THE BIKE CLEAN AND DRY BUT THE OTHER DAY I NOTICE RUST ON THE GUARDS, TAKING BACK TO DEALER TOMMROW AND SEE WHAT THEY THINK. I KNOW YOU CAN HAVE A BAD ChROME JOB. HOEFULLY I CAN TALK THEM IN TO TAKING THEM TO LOCAL ChROMER AND HAVE THEM DIPPED THAT WAY I CAN KINDA CONTROL THE THICKNESS OF THE ChROME JOB...........

So far with one summer of riding I have not seen any rust on the Yahama engine guards.  My Vstar 1100 with 9 seasons on it had rust on some of the chrome, but that chrome was of all things parts that came from the Harley dealership.  The Yamaha chrome is intact, but all parts bought from Harley have rusted, and have either been painted or rechromed  not once but several times over the last 9 years.  Now my daughter and son-in-law own the bike and will have to worry about the chrome.
