Title: Roadkill
Post by: A.T. on Aug 09, 2020, 08:46:59 pm
Haven't seen anything on here about RK, but if you don't do Facebook, you should know RK is not doing well.  I don't know the complete story but I've been checking on the "Maggie Valley Rides" Facebook group for into.

He is putting up a good fight and having an "IVC" procedure done  -  be sure to include him in your prayers.

Also been constantly watching FB's "Maggie Valley Rides" on Gary and continuing to pray for his recovery. Sounds like he is on the upside but keep on praying to speed up the process :)  :praying: :praying: :praying:

Update on Gary Bohler:  Day 26 and slowly but surely God is answering prayers.  No doctors have been in yet this morning, but he was on pressure support for 10 hours yesterday and did well. Hopefully vent comes out today.   Continued prayers for complete healing and recovery!

This is a post on fb from jolynn
Update on Gary:  So they didn't do dialysis yesterday (Sunday) but they did pressure support for 10 hours.  Today they were late doing the dialysis and pulled 3 liters of fluid off Gary and didn't do pressure support.  So since it was so late finishing his dialysis they didn't pull the vent.  The nurse I just spoke to told me that he is doing fine, they did have to restrain him to keep him from pulling the vent out. (To me that is a good sign that he is moving that much and getting his strength back.)  So in the morning is when they will try to remove the vent.  Thanks again for the support, love and prayers, you all are some awesome.  God Bless!

Update on Gary:  The vent has been removed and they have an oxygen mask on him at 50% right now.  They said he seems confused and said that is normal but he is still restrained to keep him from removing the mask.  Speech therapy will come and assess him for swallowing to determine if he can handle clear liquids.  Thanks again for all the prayers.

Just spoke with Gary’s sister.

We got nothing but good news today. Gary is off the ventilator and talking, imagine that. 😉 He’s having some therapy done in order to make sure he is swallowing correctly. Also having some physical therapy to get his muscles working again. He is still on oxygen. He’s answering questions and is alert. God is good, let’s keep Gary in our thoughts and prayers.

Update on Gary:  Praise report and we give God all the praise and glory for his healing powers.  Gary has been moved from the ICU to the progressive care unit.  He had a barium swallow test today that he failed, so they will feed him thru a  G-tube until speech therapy works with him to get those muscles strong enough to swallow correctly.  He is alert and able to carry on a conversation with the nurses.  I have not been able to zoom with him since August 9th, so I have asked to zoom with him tonight.  He does have his phone but no charger and the phone is dead.   I have asked the nurses to see what kind of phone it is and they said they think it is android and all of the nurses use I phones so they don't have a charger on the floor to charge it.  I know he will be so glad when he can talk to his family and friends again.  Thanking you all again for the prayers and praying that he continues to recover and be able to go home soon.

UPDATE:  A sweet nurse by the name of Tracy had an android charger so Gary's phone is on charge.  He is getting a permanent dialysis catheter put in this morning for dialysis.  Dr. informed me that just because they use the term permanent doesn't mean exactly that, but it is one he can leave the hospital with verses the other one that was only to be used short term.   So in the event his kidneys start working correctly again this one can be removed.  The will also resume tube feeding until he can swallow correctly.  Brian Newgent I forwarded the recordings to his phone and told Tracy  that I did this so maybe when he gets back to his room they will help him listen to it.  Again thank you all for all of your kindness and prayers and may God bless you all.

Thanks for reposting these updates Todd. I see on Maggie Valley Rides on FB but I know not everyone does. This keeps him fresh in our minds to think of and pray for. I have never met Gary face to face but have talked with him on the phone and through messages as most of the rest of you guys. What a Great Bunch! We'll just keep on praying and God will see him through this battle. :praying: :praying: :praying:

Update on Gary Bohler:  I finally got to talk to the doctor today about Gary’s progress.  So the vent came out on August 11th and the doctor walked in the next morning and said “man you sure look good” (insert drum roll). Gary replied “you’re a f<#*ing liar”.  So that gave me goose bumps and I assured the doctor it was nothing personal, that is just Gary!  Keep praying because I think the next thing will be a stress test on his heart.

Update on Gary Bohler:  Gary is doing fine, I talked to him several times today.  He seems alert and is so, so ready to get out of the hospital.  Due to being on the vent for 27 days he lost muscle and may have some nerve damage in this throat so they will insert a peg tube tomorrow and if all goes well he will also be discharged to a rehab so they can work on some swallowing exercises and also physical therapy.   So all of our prayers were heard and God is a mighty God and we still have our brother and you all still have a friend.  Thanks again for all the prayers and God bless.

All the updates on Roadkill are from his sister.
Update on Gary:  He is doing pretty good and we have just been waiting on acceptance from the rehab.  He is having some issues going from being tube fed for a month to mechanically soft foods and is having a hard time holding it down.   Hopefully the doctors will figure out that he may have been better off on just thickened liquids to start instead of meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes and even TACOS.  Have a blessed day and thanks again for continued prayers from all of his friends and family.

I might be a little off on this, but here's what I think I know (the short version). There was no car accident. Gary opted out of this year's rally (SERR) because his asthma had been giving him problems. He eventually ended up in the hospital where they determined he had fluid around his heart. He coded twice and was put on life support. There were a few complications with his O2 stats, blood sugar, and a blood clot but he eventually woke up. He had to re-learn how to talk and swallow (muscle and nerve damage from being intubated for so long) but that's better now. Throughout his ordeal, he's lost just over 50 pounds. Today, he posted a video on Facebook where he says he managed to "slide his ass outta bed and into a wheel chair". Gary still has a long journey in front of him, but he is making progress.

He has been through the wringer again.  I believe FB said 11/18 was the go home date.  If so, probably 3 weeks of some intense work to make that but he has the willpower!!

With moving I won't see Gary or any of you at the 2021 rally but I have my sites set on a 2022 rally!!  Till then, ride safe and be safe!
