Title: stupid mistake..need help
Post by: MARK CRIBB on Oct 03, 2020, 12:18:44 pm
hey everyone
I have a 2003 Yamaha road star and I was removing a add-on tachometer. I removed it and was going to use the accessory power wire for a small led light. Well , I had it removed and turned on the key to test with a meter which wire was positive and to my horror I say that the red and black wires had slipped and was touching. I also saw smoke come from where they were touching. I tested the bike and all the lights work but I hit the starter button and nothing. Something like a fuse must have blown. Do you think it might be one of the fuses at the starter relay? I am going to replace all the fuses today. What do all of you think?
  Thanks mark

You should be able to use a 12v test probe light and determine which fuse you have blown rather than replace them all.  You look up in a manual to see which one is for the starter circuit?  Probably a higher amp one.  Good luck!

There’s a 50 amp fuse you might have blown.

I doubt that. He said the lights work.
