Shinko 005 Advance 240

Anybody ran this tire?-was looking for reviews if anyone has ran this on their Raider.

I've had a little experience with Shinko's,I put one on the front of another bike and was really impressed with the grip and feel compared to the Dunlop it replaced.Only ran it a couple thousand miles before I traded the bike though,so don't know about mileage and it was also a different model.As far as comparing it to an Avon,I would rather have the grip than the extra mileage so the Avon lasting longer is not a deal breaker for me.

I would say at least 85% if not more Raider riders are using the Avon Cobras and that wouldn't be due just to mileage. Using the quick search type in shinko and you'll get some reviews then you can decide for yourself....

I see the Avon gets good reviews,really like the tread design on the Shinko though so was looking for some feedback on it.

I don't know what else to tell you brother. I don't think any of the forum members that I know of are using Shinkos. That tire has been around for awhile and if few if any are using them its probably for good reason....

Or could just spend a few extra bucks and get a tire that the majority of people know and trust. If you're not happy with a Metz I don't think that feeling will change with a Shinko. Your money your choice, good luck....

You might be surprised Raven,I had a H-D Road King classic with the wide white walls,the Dunlops that came on it were as hard as bricks,but the only other company that made a replacement with the white wall was Shinko so I gave one a try,it was much better feeling and had way more grip.I just didn't keep the bike long enough after I put it on to be able to give a long term review though.That Avon smell always gives me a headache anyway.

I tested a few sh*tko"s years back on road race bike and they were ok, but they tended to move some when they got some heat in them... I for one would not put them on any bike I own.. your tires/brakes are you life line and not worth saving a few $'s to not get a good tire...

try a 240 metz man... plenty of grip and handling ability with that shoe

As you stated: The harder compounds will run longer but lose some grip in certain conditions.  By the same token a tire that is so soft will wear prematurely.  The trick is finding the right one for you.  I've run the Avon on my Stryker for 10K but the Briggs 210 wasn't bad either.

IMO, the only other way to get more mileage from a tire is to have more tread to start with and the Avon is generous there.
And, of course, where you ride, how you ride, riding weight etc. etc. will affect things as well. 
The Commander II's also get decent reviews from what I've seen.

Try the Shinko if you've been happy with them in the past and let us know.  More reviews and choices are always a good thing

Shinko is an acquisition of Yokohama Tires. They're not bad.

I didn't get 3000 miles out of a Shinko on my Warrior. I put one on the front though and it still has decent tread after two years. The one on the rear was kind of scary though. I was glad to replace it.

yeah man they move pretty good once they are heated... I was at vir doing some testing with tires and a new bike and almost ate sh*t for having shinko's on my bike... front pushed out for 6-8ft or so coming out of turn 4 but I was able to save it ... they came off and didn't do another lap with them!
