Fuel gauge not registering
« on: Mar 26, 2018, 07:05:09 pm »
Just noticed that the fuel gauge hand sweeps on initial key turn but stays on E after initial sweep. Never had issue before. Removed tank a few times to get at air intake and just installed new rear, all in one, signal and brake lamp. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hey bro is the fuel light one as well ?? if so its the fuel sending unit I'd say... mine has been out for two years lol , just reset the trip every fill up and look for gas around 90-100 miles until I change it out at some point .

I thought the blaster tail light flash option toggle switch ground may have had a cause but that does not pose the issue.

check the plugs for the dash and make sure one of the pins have not backed out maybe.... if the sender was bad the light would for sure be on man

Read that the breather tube could cause it if it's kinked or bent. Have to check that next.

It is beginning to sound to me like the sending unit has finally died.

I will pull tank tomorrow and check the sending unit and tank float and breather tube. I am to OCD not to have a instrument not functioning!!!

Ok pulled instrument panel off. Rechecked the three plugs all were solidly connected. Took the sending unit plug and disconnected it and reconnected it....still no fuel gauge function.  Turn ignition off and disconnected same plug. Turned ignition on and reconnected plug. Then off again with ignition. Immediatley turned key on again and whamo...gauge now registers. I must preface that all pins tested good with volt meter prior to attempting this sequence and no shorts were found.

I have only had my bike a coupke weeks but the gauge seems to be very sketchy. Once i tapped it with my knuckle and it finally registered. After sitting for awhile it wont register at all until i get a couple blocks down the road. I know this isnt a fix but an experience of mine.
