Unicorn backrest key replacement
« on: Dec 03, 2018, 01:00:53 pm »
Hey guys,

I found a unicorn backrest after posting just about everywhere.   Unfortunately,  the owner hasn't been able to find the keys.    Has anybody had to get new ones,  and how quickly were you able to get them done ?  Should it be done specifically thru yamaha,  or should i go the route of a locksmith?

Thanks !

Use a regular locksmith - trying to get a key from Mamayama is worse than pulling teeth.

I was worried that would be the case.    I had a guy on the Facebook page just post that he took the lock cylinder to the local locksmith and they keyed it to his raider ignition key with no problem for like $10.  Thought id post that here since it was such a great idea !
    Thanks

That's awesome !   The only downside is that now i'll need the original ignition key for more than just the gas cap if i ever pull the trigger on that Bulldawg keyless system!  Lol

You do know on today's keys you only use one side - you can have one side cut for the ignition and the other side for whatever - I did that with mine for my quick release windshield  ;D

Today’s Keys?  Is 2009 considered Today?

When you get to a certain age, everything that happened after your 50s is "today"  ;)  :poke:

Okay, okay - back in the old days keys were cut on one side of the blade and could only be put in one way - keys now are cut on both sides so you it doesn't matter which way they go in they will work but you are still only using one side of the key.

If i have to think about replacement then i will prefer to take suggestions from an auto locksmith near me regarding key replacement.

Yep!  Considering their email is [email protected], I would guess they're in the key making business.

Me too.  Just had to mark which side of the key is "up" for ignition.  .
