2008 Quick release backrest hardware needed!
« on: May 04, 2020, 07:19:36 am »
I'm hoping that one of my fellow Raider riders can help me with my dilemma.  I bought my 2008 Raider S and it came with the quick release backrest. Unfortunately the backrest was not mounted and they can't find the hardware so I was wondering if anyone either has an extra set kicking around or knows of somewhere I can purchase these.  I am a Google fanatic and all of my searches have come up with nothing.  Thanks in advance!

You could buy the whole kit on ebay:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Raider-Quick-Release-Backrest-fits-all-years-SCL/164035769646?hash=item26314b352e:g:~jIAAOSwz5peIcLg

I only post that link because I was bidding on this exact set over the winter. This seller won the auction for $387, more than I was willing to spend, and then posted it for $2k for a few months now. He didn't even take new pictures.

Good luck in your search for hardware for your unicorn. Maybe someone has found a way to make the hardware or adapt H-D hardware? Otherwise you are sitting on a $500 paperweight and the dealer needs to do right by you.

I saw this for 2K....what a joke!  I hope they sit on that until it rots....I would rather buy a brand new Jardine for around $300 than look like a fool and spend 2 grand on a supposed OEM on EBAY.  Thanks for the info!

That original backrest with the short or tall section plus rack where overpriced in my book. I had them all and the Chrome was not the greatest., I've seen better.

For $2k you could buy the passenger a cheap bike and they could ride their own.

The original quick release backrest wasn't that good - several people had problems with them popping off while riding solo. I someone has the hardware for one they can give you the measurements of the bolts and roller spacers and you should be able to match them.

That would be great. I have reached out to a couple of companies who are selling the backrest to see if they will sell only the hardware. Is there a website that sells just the spools if you have the right measurements?

Once you get the measurements try a search for "axle bolt sleeve" or "roller spcers" - I had a Cobra fixed sissy bar on my Raider I could take it off or put it on in about 10 minutes and didn't have to worry about it falling off.

That would be great seeing that I'm losing my mind trying to search for it on the internet.  I'm almost thinking about trashing the OEM backrest and getting a Jardine quick release so at least I'll have the right hardware for the right backrest.  Never thought it would be this difficult!

The original back rest didn't stay in production for very long - there were issues with it - popping off, rattling and the chrome sucked.

Thanks GaGator!  I will keep that info handy. Now all I need is the rollers. Getting closer though!

Update:  Finally picked up the backrest from the dealership....still no mounting hardware. No idea what to do with this unless I can miraculously find the mounting hardware  :-(

I just got off the phone with Fiddles he has one and he's gong to try and get all the hardware measurements and pictures and post them when he gets a chance.
