So here's another headlight option...kinda like how it looks and it's plug and play. I know of a certain "Earth Dawg" Raider for which this would look pretty cool ...

Earthdawg likes those!  And they’re a lot cheaper than the Rigid lights I’m runnin now!

The initial repairs (including draining the cocktail) are complete and the lady is running smooth and wild (good wild).

So, it is time to go on a buying spree and start beating and grinding on some metal in prep to repaint. I note that the frame is a dark grey metallic. I can't find a paint code for that. Anyone know?

Can someone tell me what this thing is and what it looks like?  I have and remember no part that looks like that between the bolt/washer/grommet (32/31/18) and where it attaches to the Cable Guide (5C7-23389-00-00) that then attaches to the upper triple tree.

Note: still looking at the possibility of light bars, just comparing prices to rebuild.

In the end, we will buying the OEM bucket and bucket guts and add an LED bulb. Would have gone with light bars, but the only ones that have high/low beam capability don't fit (most that claim that capability simply turn on more bulbs, but have not optics to change the shape of the beam). Rigid have some that have the capability, but only in bars that are 11 inches long and greater. Could buckle up an array of different beam bars/pods, but that rather negates the minimalist intent.

Buy Chilly's headlight bracket and use a pinch-mount style headlight assy.

I'll replace the light with a knock-off daymaker.  Had the same setup on my previous Raider - loved having the bigger bucket for room.

When I first saw that, I thought that it still required the internal OEM parts to work. Looking at the instructions, this does not appear to be true.

This is would cost the $99 plus bucket assembly, bezel, bolts, sleeves, nuts, for a total of $310.32 (plus tax and shipping for the OEM parts, we have some reusable parts), not including 5.75" LED assembly.
Going partial OEM would cost $271.22 (plus...), not including the 7" LED assembly.
Going straight up OEM would cost $361.33 (plus...), not including the LED bulb.

Wonder if there is any benefit to the 5.75" vs 7" LED assembly. Greater variety? Future access?

Wonder how robust printed plastic parts are....

I guess it is well past time to show progress on this. I wanted to get this done quickly, but my enthusiasm just hasn't been there.... And as you might expect, the cost estimates were way low.

Am now working on getting the crud off the jugs. The next thing I need to figure out is the rust on all the case bolts. I cleaned up a lot of them when I installed the bomber kit. But, they are rusting badly. Suggestions welcome. I think that the cost would be outrageous to replace them all (at least with OEM). I could de-rust them and paint, but really? Similarly, getting them re-plated makes little sense. Additionally, not sure what to do with the rust on the tubes (aka: push rod guides; aka: push rod covers). Replating these might make sense, if it didn't mean the equivalent of a valve job.

WOW, you've taken on a challenge there.  As far as the bolts, don't disturb them unless needed to do other work.  Depending on where they were located on the bike/engine, I'd take a small Dremel tool wire brush to them for clean-up if possible, then either paint them flat/gloss black or chrome by hand with a small cheapo artist brush for tight spots or even a Q-tip.  They will look like OEM new from a few feet away.  I didn't spend that much time doing it to my older bikes, AND, it only cost a couple bucks!
