New Handlebars create hot brake line
« on: Jul 02, 2020, 06:26:25 pm »
Installed some apes on my 2008 with new steel brake and clutch lines. Everything seems to have been working fine until the plastic cover on my brake line started to melt off! The line gets hot to the touch just by turning the ignition key. I figure both the clutch and brake lines are acting as grounds to the handlebar switches and Iím not certain how to fix that. I know most Harleys have a triple tree ground wire. Not sure if the Raider does but I did replace the whole brake line assembly which might have had insulation to prevent that, not sure.

Well you know where the problem is - likely switches on the right.  If no fuse blew, then it has to be something right there in the handlebar switch.  What about the two leads under the lever for the brake micro-switch?   Good condition?  The brake circuit powers when the ignition is turned.

       :agree:
I don't think any of the switches normally ground to the bars.
I'd rather die on a motorcycle than live without one.

And most likely a non-fused circuit since no wires would get hot before blowing a fuse.  Did you add anything yourself? Seems like you nicked a wire or something when pulling them through the bars.  Might have to do that side again... :(
