Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries for our Raider?
« on: Aug 20, 2020, 08:27:52 am »
Does anyone have any experience with Lithium Iron Phosphate, (NOT Lithium Ion) batteries? I am looking into them as replacement for the stock Raider battery. Anyone have any info on them for our bike? Any name brands you would recommend? I am looking at this name brand DAKOTA LITHIUM.

I believe mine is LiFe (Lithium Iron):

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JRBV3W9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

It's down to $135 right now. Had mine for a year now, no issues.

I put a very short review in this thread: https://www.roadstarraider.com/index.php?topic=135482.15

I have a Battery Tender brand LiFePO4 battery. It works great in warm weather, but cranks real slow in the cooler spring/fall mornings up here in Canada. This is normal for lithium batteries. The instructions say you should warm up the battery by turning on the headlight 15-30 seconds (can't remember the exact number), but we know that's not happening on the Raider. I usually try to crank it over 2-3 times before it actually spins the engine enough to get it started.
I'd rather die on a motorcycle than live without one.

I had a Battery Tender Lithium battery 240 CCA. Much smaller and lighter in weight than lead-acid. Mine lasted about 4.5 years. I always left it on charge when not riding and never had slow cranking issues. Mine crapped out when I was out of town in Johnson City, TN and I replaced it with another brand that had 300 CCA. I'll go look for the brand name if someone is interested.
