Fork Extensions for Anyone Interested
« on: Dec 22, 2020, 12:54:42 pm »
I wanted and could not find these for months. I found a company called Billet Proof Designs. The owner Damian told me that if I sent him the fork cap from my Raider he could make me a set from 6061-T6 aluminum. I need a commitment of 3-5 to start taking orders. These are going to run around $100 per pair (chromed) plus 10% for each additional inch over 2. Right now I do not need sizes or money just a commitment of quantity.

Are you sure you want them chromed?  They won't match the existing fork tubes at all.

Good point. And anything less than 2" and you'll only see the top anyway.

Iím open to suggestions. Chrome takes much less work to stay shiny than polished aluminum. If anybody wants Iíll check price for polished stainless steel.

I think I read on here somewhere that CHROMINATOR had them chromed or they came chromed. Check out his profile for pics - it seems to match pretty well IMO.

I polished mine over 2 years ago and they still look perfect.

If you chrome them, wonít they have a larger diameter and not match up?

If chromed, the thickness of plating will be specifically considered.

Hey Ares X, is polished stainless steel a better choice for matching the existing forks?

Chroming could also create a sealing problem if there are any inconsistencies in the chrome. You definitely don't want your tubes leaking. That can become a fatal issue if bad enough.

I'm not sure anyone ever got it exactly right. The polished aluminum didn't really match either.   Plus you'll always have a seam showing. I ended up creating a cover for mine out of a vacuum tube from Home Depot.

Thereís ways to prevent plating in certain areas, namely the threads and the o-ring groove.

There's a guy on Facebook - Nicholas Easterly - who makes fork extensions for the Raider.  He does a lot - enlarges the tank (+2 gals); turbos - just about anything Raider.

Good old fashioned ingenuity at its best! I love it!
