Strange Noise please help!!!
« on: Jul 15, 2021, 09:30:08 pm »
Hey everybody I was hoping you all could help me. So my bike started making an odd sound a few days ago. It had it has 10800 miles on. it's a 2012. So when the bike is hot and I'm making a left handed turn it sounds lime something is knocking or rubbing almost like a chain rubbing against something but I know there's no chain on the left side. Has anybody encountered anything like this and if so what are your thoughts? I didnt see any threads on this type of noise. If i missed it i apologize

Do you have a custom front fender? My fiberglass fender was far from centered when I first installed it. I thought I got it close but when I turned right, it rubbed the tire... had to get it perfectly centered. It wouldn't cause a metallic sound, but another sound that only appeared for me turning one direction.

This was my thought. My wife had rubbing on her Stryker until I fixed it.

That was my thought was the pully. I checked it and it looks good. Its weird cause its only when i lean it to the left and it does change with engine rpms. I dont have a different fender. Mostly factory aside from a 240 tire and gutted pipes

Things to check when you have strange noise - check the belt tension to make sure it's not belt chirp - check the headlight to make sure the high and low beam work to eliminate stator growl. When you checked the front pull did you actually put a wrench on it to see if the bolt was tight?

You stated you had a 240 tire.  Any chance you have something hanging low getting rubbed under the rear fender? I rubbed through my brake and signal wires that way.

I didnt put a wrench on the pulley nut and check it with torque. I checked it by hand and seen the knock in points on the nut were still knocked in to the shaft grove. And yea no rubbing in the rear. I noticed it more shortly after i changed the oil. I wonder if the oil i used is more noisy than what i had in it when i got it. I put amsoil in it. And a k&n filter

Just curious does it do it when the bike is on the kickstand or does the bike have to be moving turning left?

This maybe? Not specifically for the Raider, but the 1900 is a lightly bored and stroked 1700.
