GPS hook up
« on: Aug 01, 2021, 02:17:28 pm »
I'm  new to the site and to the Yamaha. Have owned 21 bikes in the past years but never a Yamaha. I'm picking up an 08 Raider next week from a buddy. I will hook up my GPS as 1 of the first things I do. Where can I get power to connect it to that is on/off with the key. Thanks in advance

There's a plug in the headlight bucket with an on off switch on the right side control box on the handlbars

Great thank you. Do you know what color the plus is? I take it it is a 2 prong plug/.

Don't remember but it shouldn't have anything plugged into it unless the previous owner added something - white I think

There's a Sumitomo MT 090 connector P/N 6180-2322 under the seat that will mate to a P/N 6187-2311. It's pre-wired to the ignition switch, so it turns off with the key removed, but you'll want to wire it to an SPST relay and tap into the battery for higher current devices. It outputs 12V. I have a 12V to 5V DC converter under the seat with a wire running under the tank to the handlebars for my phone. Here's where you can buy the connector.

      And the step down circuit...

Some people have mentioned the headlight accessory power line, but I'd save that for LED's or something that would take advantage of the right hand on/off switch.

Thanks for the help. If all goes right I will be picking it up on Monday, August 9, 2021. The owner is a friend of mine and I'm getting the bike about $4000 under KBB. It looks like the owner before him did some vinyl wrap on the chrome parts. From the picture it looks like it is peeling on the chrome piece on the tank, I will try and remove it from everywhere they have it. Hope it comes out OK
