Have you tried calling Yamaha? When I had a problem with my fuel pump the second time I called and they covered the cost and it had been way out of warranty.

    The only time mine clunked was when the engine was still kinda cold and shifting from neutral to 1st - this big V- twin will make some noise when the engine is running but that's pretty much normal.
    Doesn't sound like the previous owner took very good care of it - good luck with it.

    Haven't thought yamaha would do something like that, but I'll give it a try!
