Engine (Oil?) Temp - how to get it to show temporarily on the display

I just did a word search of the shop manual and found nothing related to a high temperature shutdown.  Pgs 7-29 through 7-31 have the ECU diagnostic codes, none of them are for high engine temperature.  Code 70 is given when the engine is idled for more than 20 minutes.  The ECU shuts down the engine to prevent overheating, but that's the closest thing I can find to an oil temp shutdown.

There's also code 28:engine temperature sensor open or short. But that has nothing to do with the actual engine temperature.

That's what it was  Code 28     I over heated doing a CHP training course

Code 28 did not shut you down.  The bike is able to start and run with a code 28.  The engine may have overheated and stalled, but it wasn't the code that did it.  The oil temp must have been high enough that the ECU thought the temperature detector was open.  I can see the relationship, but it wasn't the code that shut you down.

If your Raider had over heated it would have shut down - it has a sensor that if the bike doesn't move while running in 20 mins it will shut down - don't ask me how I know.

How about adding a thermostat to the cooler.  Harley does this with oil coolers to maintain operating temperature.

I couldn't find a thread that easily told how to get the oil temp (4/10 on edit - probably engine temp) reading so I thought I'd add one.

With bike off..
Press and hold the black reset button below speedometer
Turn ignition key on
Wait about 5 seconds and your display will show Diag mode

Next..
Press and hold black button and press and hold the left handlebar trigger for about 5 seconds
This will take you to the codes.

Use the trigger to cycle thru the codes, counting up.
#11 is oil (4/10 engine??) temp
Use the reset button to go down in code number.

On edit 4/10 - To get out of diagnostic mode, one way is to turn the key off.

I read almost all topic bud to the end i don't understand - this is a oil temperature or no ?
