It does have a few bolts and nuts, but underneath it is a damn nice example of a belt driven OHV V-twin EFI motorcycle.  It is very good at what it was designed to do.  Then the FTC, EPA, and a few other three and four letter words got a hold of it.  It is a wonder the great bike survived. ;D

It has been a couple years, but as I recall there are just "balled" ends on the cables that fit thru detents in the pully.

If you unplug the servo motor it will generate and error code in the ECU.

Just leave it there without the cables.
I tucked mine behind the frame with a couple of zip ties, and it is completely hidden.
you zip tied the wires ? they are super easy to wiggle out of the servo and remove completly...

When I installed my new exhaust, I disconnected the XUP Valve from the cables and tucked the cables in the frame.  No codes, no sound on startup and seemingly no worries.

Anyone know of something I should make sure of or watch for to indicate this isn't working?

Here's one I just did with mine and so far no codes. I only have about 15 min or so run time and nearly as many starts. I got tired of the noise while trying to troubleshoot my bike recently and was considering removal so I tore it apart. Wanted the space too after putting in the electronic cruise. Got denied on complete removal. Decided to gut it,  no gears or output shaft, motor is still there but much quieter. On the output shaft hole just cleaned it really good and put a shot of silicone in it.

So guess who just finished putting the gears and pins back in the exup actuator?  My only guess is that there must be a spot on the potentimeter that's inside that must be the perfect resistance value to allow you to get away with it for a little while until vibration changes it. Oh, well lesson learned, just put up with it and find mething wothwhile to modify.

The start sequence cycles the servo through the full range.  If the resistance doesn't change, it assumes the EXUP is stuck and gives you a code.

Sorry I didn't know you were going to try that.  But the good news is that you confirmed you can't do that.   :D

Thanks anyway TRaider, not a big deal. You know how once in awhile everyone has to have a "Duh" moment?  Well I just continue to live in the moment I guess. I knew darn good and well it wasn't going to work and STILL did it anyway. Winter time mod with no real chance for testing until a couple of weeks ago and figured I'd better let everyone know that it was definitely a bust.  :o

So, I'm sorry to ressurect an old thread, but it seemed like a waste to make a new one and rehash details that this one had already hashed out.

Are there any updates on this. I was messing around with the bike today and I want to remove this thing all together. With it gone there is quite a bit of room available inside under the frame that I was thinking of fabing up a small hidy box to fit behind Chilly's boomerang cover or possibly using the cover as the door to the box. It just seems like such a huge waste.

I need to figure out how to get this thing gone. There has got to be a way.

I put a EXUP valve emulator in and removed it.  I did the research and there are several bikes that use the same actuator.  Some have said it will throw a code.  I have had this one installed for about 3000 miles now and it works and I have gotten no code.  Here is where I got mine.

You wrote you put the emulator in and removed it. Are you using or not? Thanks
